I'll be honest... I've been busting my butt trying to build nice white hat content that is nice to read, and valuable to my readers.
I've been networking a little but it's time consuming. Getting out and posting on other people's blogs.
For all of the content I've been writing, my traffic isn't going up proportionately. I get a sense that the search engines put a limited life on article / blog type content. The content is hot for a few days and then gets cooled down in the search engines.
I find myself having to be more and more creative with how I generate traffic to my sites. I'm spending more and more time designing and developing ways for people to find my site.
I'm seeing that some of these ways could be interpreted as black hat. Well... you've got to do what you've got to do to get traffic. If I'm getting diminishing returns on proper white hat based content, I can only write so many articles in a day or month. I need to grow the business and make more money for growth purposes.
Black hat people are very creative and diligent people. They take the time to test different marketing methods to see how they work. If that's the case, I guess I will be leaning in that direction in the years to come.
While I don't like the low quality spammy methods that some others use, I don't like the "high quantity of content spread out into many places" type marketing. I like my writing to be seen as wide spread as possible.
If black hat means creative and diligent development in website marketing, please consider me as black hat as possible.
