My wife and I decided that it was time that we talk to the children about (undesirable) things you might find on the internet. Our kids are in the early teens and so their curiosity is in full force.
I was very pleased when I asked my daughter if she had seen any porn on the computer. She emphatically replied, NO! I said, "what about on popups?" I guess I answered my own question because we use several popup blockers on that computer. There's a very unlikely chance that she would see anonymous porn pop-ups.
I was over come with relief at that point. I was excited to know that she wasn't being bombarded with material that she shouldn't be seeing.
So... aside from popup blockers saving your from those annoying ads, they also can help keep your children's minds at a more pure level.
That's my experience with porn popup blockers. Otherwise, popups have their time and place and are another way for advertisers to show their products and services.
